Queenie’s Beauty is a 3-color, 3-fabric quilt set on point. It measures approximately 79 x 79 inches. It is one of my more complex designs with different colorings for 2 of the 3 blocks. It also uses blocks you don’t see very often—Improved 9 Patch, Alabama Beauty and Drunkards Trail. Using Inklingo to print the templates on the reverse of the fabric makes sewing these blocks a piece of cake.
This design uses the Inklingo Orange Peel Deluxe Collection and the 4″ Drunkards Trail Collection. I colored the blocks in EQ7 with fabrics from Toscana by Northcott.
When I named this quilt, I didn’t have a Queenie in my family tree. [There are a couple of letters where I had to pick other names to use that weren’t in my tree.] Earlier this week, I was copying some Canadian land grant records to my research and saw a birth record for a Queenie Isabella Duthie born in 1911. I know I’m related to her because I recognize some of the other names in a partial online tree that included her, I just don’t know how we are related yet. Queenie married someone named Fairservice and she died in 1992 according to the online tree. I think she wanted me to find her so she could claim her quilt.

I didn’t use fabric samples for the original design and liked the Delft Blue look. I couldn’t quite duplicate it in the fabric swatches in Electric Quilt so I switched tactics and went with some completely different colorways |

Priscilla’s Beauty is a 5-color, 6-fabric quilt in a horizontal setting. It measures 69 x 69 inches. I have a smaller version of this quilt started. I got bogged down in the pomegranate applique—I have too many applique projects going!
This design uses the Inklingo New York Beauty #2 and 6″ Sunflower Collections. I colored the blocks in EQ7 with fabrics from Stonehenge by Northcott.
Pricilla Williamson is a second great aunt and one of Jane’s daughters. She was born in 1861 but I lose sight of her after the 1870 Census. Both of her parents are gone by 1880 and she could be living with other relatives or even married by the 1880 Census. Either way, I thought a New York Beauty quilt should be hers.

Odelia’s Peacocks and the Electric Fan is a 3-color, 3-fabric quilt in a horizontal setting. It measures 81 x 81 inches. I was having fun just playing around with unusual blocks and fun applique designs in Electric Quilt with this quilt.
This design uses the Inklingo 9″ Storm at Sea Collection and the Inklingo 3″ Clamshell Edge Collection. I colored the blocks in EQ7 with fabrics from Toscana and Artisan Spirit Shimmer by Northcott.
There are 2 Odelias in my family tree. One I’m actually related to. She’s a first cousin 2x times removed in my paternal grandmother’s mother’s line—Odelia [George] Perry. The other Odelia is the sister-in-law of a third cousin 2x removed. Really. I was obviously busy following leads in someone’s tree on Ancestry.com and wasn’t paying any attention to just how the people I was adding to my tree were actually related to me. It happens. You lose track.
The same thing happens to me in Electric Quilt. All of a sudden I have 50 different colorways of the same quilt design because I’m thinking, “I wonder how it would look if I changed this color?” Somehow I ended up with the Electric Fan quilt block in my Sketchbook of Blocks. Being able to make the block with part of an Inklingo collection made me decide to keep it and use it in a quilt design. Then I was playing around with the Auto-Border feature—suddenly there were peacocks. [Who knew?] Well, I had to use them, too. I modified them a bit to make them simpler. You could probably even machine applique them. That’s how Odelia ended up with peacocks and electric fans.
