The simplified borders for Nancy’s Ocean Waves are done! Finally. I’m kinda in love with this version too. (If you want to hum along to the love song running through my head, here you go.)
I have updated the original Nancy’s Ocean Waves post with the printing chart and uploaded the 2 PDFs you need to complete the quilt. The Math PDF shows the blocks and a has a partial chart that shows how the different blocks go together in odd and even rows plus the half and corner blocks for the edges. The Border PDF has the Ship’s Wheel and Ribbon/Shell/Starfish border appliques. Also included are a set of templates for hand piecing or foundation piecing the Mariner’s Compass blocks.
A couple of things to note: The original post for Nancy’s Ocean Waves is for blocks that are laid out in an “X” design.
Top left corner looks like an X.
This is a less common layout for an Ocean Waves quilt but fewer block configurations are needed so it is less complicated to put together.
The printing chart and Math PDF in this post are for blocks that are laid out in the more traditional “O” design.
Top left corner looks like an O.
Again, the Math PDF shows the different blocks and has a partial chart to show how the rows and edges go together. Because the half and corner blocks that go around the quilt center need 2 variations to complete this layout, you really need to pay attention to which block goes where so all those HST units are going in the right direction. The Border Applique PDF is the same for both quilt layouts.
There is currently no 6 inch Quarter Square Triangle [QST] available in any Inklingo Collection so the QST will have to be cut from squares as noted on the Printing Charts for both Ocean Waves layouts. (Someday, I would love to see an Inklingo Collection for a 6 inch Ocean Waves quilt that would include the 1.5 inch HST, 4.24 inch Square, 6 inch QST and the 3 inch HST for the corners in the “O” layout. Oh, it would be really great to have a 12 inch Mariner’s Compass Collection. Hehehe)

Sewing HST units with Inklingo
===
Whew! This is definitely the most complicated Design Sheet set that I put together. Now that this project is done, this is where you will find me… LOL
===
Xandra’s Pickle Dish is a 2-color, 3-fabric quilt set on point. It measures approximately 70 x 70 inches. I used an on-point setting for this quilt so I could finish it off with straight edges to make binding the quilt easier. The curves are very gentle and can be easily machine pieced. The Inklingo Double Wedding Ring Design Book includes assembly notes, information on pressing and a pressing guide for the arcs. The DWR Design Book is free when you purchase the DWR or Pickle Dish collections but through 31 December 2014, Linda is offering it for free without a purchase.
This design uses the Inklingo Pickle Dish Collection which can be purchased separately and has all the shapes to make this quilt or as an Add-On to the Double Wedding Ring Collection. I colored the blocks in EQ7 with fabrics from Toscana and Stonehenge by Northcott. Linda has a video with 50 Double Wedding Ring designs (see end of post) that will inspire some to try a more complicated design. There is also information on Linda’s blog about fussy cutting Double Wedding Ring shapes!
No, there is no Xandra in my family tree. There isn’t anyone male or female whose name begins with the letter X as a matter of fact.

How to Rotary Cut Curves
===
Waynonda’s Winding Ways is a 4-color, 6-fabric quilt in a horizontal setting. The quilt measures 72 x 72 inches. My first design for a Winding Ways quilt was an on-point setting and colored with sea greenish fabrics. When I opened the Winding Ways Design Book, I saw the sample quilt Linda had included in the worksheets with curved edges. I just had to try it out in a new design! This might be one of my top ten favorites in the A-Z series of designs.
This design uses the Inklingo 9” Winding Ways Collection. I colored the blocks in EQ7 with fabrics from Toscana by Northcott.
Waynonda is a living person so I am not sharing any personal information about her. She has one of the more unusual names in my family tree. Don’t you think a Winding Ways quilt was the perfect match for her name?

How to Rotary Cut Curves
The first 3 1/2 minutes of the following video explains how to fold and cut your fabric to make bias binding. This is basically how I do it.
