Odelia’s Peacocks and the Electric Fan is a 3-color, 3-fabric quilt in a horizontal setting. It measures 81 x 81 inches. I was having fun just playing around with unusual blocks and fun applique designs in Electric Quilt with this quilt.
This design uses the Inklingo 9″ Storm at Sea Collection and the Inklingo 3″ Clamshell Edge Collection. I colored the blocks in EQ7 with fabrics from Toscana and Artisan Spirit Shimmer by Northcott.
There are 2 Odelias in my family tree. One I’m actually related to. She’s a first cousin 2x times removed in my paternal grandmother’s mother’s line—Odelia [George] Perry. The other Odelia is the sister-in-law of a third cousin 2x removed. Really. I was obviously busy following leads in someone’s tree on Ancestry.com and wasn’t paying any attention to just how the people I was adding to my tree were actually related to me. It happens. You lose track.
The same thing happens to me in Electric Quilt. All of a sudden I have 50 different colorways of the same quilt design because I’m thinking, “I wonder how it would look if I changed this color?” Somehow I ended up with the Electric Fan quilt block in my Sketchbook of Blocks. Being able to make the block with part of an Inklingo collection made me decide to keep it and use it in a quilt design. Then I was playing around with the Auto-Border feature—suddenly there were peacocks. [Who knew?] Well, I had to use them, too. I modified them a bit to make them simpler. You could probably even machine applique them. That’s how Odelia ended up with peacocks and electric fans.

Nancy’s Ocean Waves is a multi-color, multi-fabric quilt in a horizontal setting. There is a row of half blocks around the center section of the quilt. The quilt measures 96 x 96 inches with the 12 inch border. I started out with a red and purple color scheme and ended up with a blue and green color scheme because of the lighthouse applique I wanted to use in the border on my version. (The lighthouse doesn’t look as nice on the red border.) The blue-and-green-only color scheme fell flat so I added in a deep red and some purples for contrast and sparkle. If you don’t want to use as many different fabrics as I have in mind for my quilt, print more Half Square Triangles for each of the fabrics you plan to use.
This quilt design uses an “X” layout — top left corner looks like an X — for the Ocean Waves blocks. It is a less common layout for this quilt. There is a printing chart for the more traditional “O” layout — top left corner looks like an O — in this post.
There is a gallery slideshow at the bottom of this post with colorway variations.
This design uses the Inklingo HST 00B, the Inklingo Square 00B and the Inklingo Circles Collections. I colored the blocks in EQ7 with fabrics from Toscana by Northcott.
Yes, another nautical-themed quilt. Sometimes looking for a married woman’s maiden name feels a bit like looking out over the horizon on the ocean with no land in sight. Just an endless sea. I have a list of female names in my tree with no last names. Nancy sits in the middle of the list. She is (most likely) Ellen (Burton) Pollitt’s mother and my 5x great grandmother. This one is for Nancy and all the others whose last names are unknown.

Sewing Half Square Triangle Units with Inklingo:
===
Leona – Lady of the Lake is a 2-color, 2-fabric quilt in a horizontal setting. It measures 76 x 76 inches. This is an easy quilt with only 2 fabrics and 1 shape—Half Square Triangles!
This design uses the Inklingo HST 00B Collection. I colored the blocks in EQ7 with fabrics from Toscana and Stonehenge by Northcott.
Another quilt with no real ancestor story. Leona Maude George was a second cousin in my paternal grandmother’s mother’s line. [Got that?] Her parents were both Georges. I am sure there is a story there but I haven’t done any research on it since it is a collateral line. I’m focused on direct lines only until I get everything re-entered in my genealogy software. I just liked Leona’s name for this quilt out of all the female L names.
